Exquisite Corpse: This version of the game is played with words. Everyone writes an article and an adjective on a piece of paper, then folds it to conceal the words and passes it to their neighbor. Now everyone writes a noun on the paper they are holding, folds it again to conceal their word, and passes it to their neighbor. Repeat with a verb; repeat with another article and adjective; finally, repeat with a noun. Everyone unfolds their papers and reads the poems they are holding aloud. One of the first poems written this way was: “The exquisite corpse shall drink the new wine,” which is how the game gets its name.
We used https://randomwordgenerator.com/ to create our poems.
Article, Adjective, Noun, Verb, Article, Adjective, Noun
- A hungry inspection froze the uppity republic
- The succinct literature diminish a dysfunctional chest
- An odd doctor guesses the instinctive sir
- The oceanic speech organized a whimsical menu
- The dashing reality talk a jumbled family.
- An abstracted history inspects the bizarre system
- This brash agreement refused a crooked coffee
- The short recording boost at weak bath
We tackled this exercise first by using a random word generator in order to make up for the lack of our ability to accomplish “blind” paper passing. To play the game in person, randomization occurs based on blind passing. In our first version, a machine accomplished this task and we had a blast reading out our results to each other. We then tried the activity a second time by using a shared spreadsheet and white text so no one could read each other’s entries. Rather than passing a piece of paper we shifted down a row and over a column. This experience was quite similar to the first version we did, but we actually found it to be a bit more hilarious as we could see where each other was but not what we were typing. We giggled the entire time. Once we changed the font color to black we found the sentences to be just as random as the randomly generated ones! We are considering calling our game Construct Family however, we are not sold on it.
- The disturbed cat constructed a beautiful family
- The gruesome flock lie an ancient minivan
- The happy puppy yelled a shiny semi-truck
- The lame president sprinted an aggressive dog
